Trails and tribulations

So for the past two weeks I've been driving to work more often than not. Doctors appointments, needing to re-stock on food, foul weather and just plain laziness have put me behind the wheel on a fairly regular basis in August. While this has kept me from getting my usual 2-3 hours of commuting in a day, it has given me the luxury of being able to take my bike ANYWHERE in town quickly and ride some fun stuff. To that end after work I've gone off exploring and checked out a number of local trails on my BMX. I'm not saying where because that's just kinda how it works, but damn, that shit's FUN to ride! I haven't broken anything yet and I'm still scared of the bigger jumps, but pump tracks and tables are a whole lot of fun right now. I need to go back up to Walnut Creek and take my BMX around the loop there, but if you know the right people or read the right forums there are a LOT of awesome hidden trails to find out about beyond the usual BCGB, WC, CP, etc.

I've also found that there's more rideable trails near my workplace than I thought there were. Now these aren't the kind of trails with jumps and kids on small bikes with tight pants, but they're a whole lot of fun to tear around on nonetheless. Rocky drops, bone-jarring decents, and plenty of skin-scraping gravel to crash on. Check it...

I already knew about that stuff and have ridden it fairly regularly (it's a blast on the fixed cross bike) but the other stuff to the north and east is a little less "developed". It's obviously single-track, but probably not ridden super often. Still a whole lot of fun.

Remember, tomorrow's Critical Mass! Put on your bike-riding best and get down to the UT West Mall at 5pm. I should have the bike stereo in tow and will try to keep the music awesome. See you there!
