Critical Mass in 5 hours!
Remember folks, that grand tradition known as Critical Mass commences in a little over 5 hours. Be at the UT West Mall around 5pm with your bike, your friends, some water, and whatever else you think you need to make Critical Mass the ride it is. Here's a video from last month to get y'all amped (thanks Ben!)...
This ride has been going on for 16 years now, which means it's older than several of the participants I've met. ALWAYS expect the unexpected. If you don't know what this ride is about, check out it's history and read about the shit the early riders went through, then go take a gander at what the ride looks like today. Freaking awesome.
P.S. If we head straight for the traffic circle on riverside one more time I'm going to kill myself. Not really, but I'll definitely curse up a storm and maintain a grim look on my face until we leave the immediate vicinity. Do we have to do the same thing every month? Someone show some initiative and take us somewhere new, please.
The frequent stops seem rather unnecessary. It seems some people lately are drunk enough pre-ride...must there be a beer break every 3 miles?
that this is an effort to draw in more people to the bike community and i think the breaks make it accessible to inexperienced riders/beginners. It should be a rather casual ride...
Just an idea... the Riverside Oak tree was great over the summer when the rides were 150-300. But now that the mass is approaching 500, why not use the capital as a round about?
if i have to ride my bike around that fucking circle one more time i'm gonna flip.
some of us enjoy chugging beers at our stops...
well we should deffinately stop at the capitol for an hour or two. Hell lets just start the ride there so we dont have to ride any further.
fixed gears are like butt holes, every one has one.
Let's just start and stop at the capitol. No need to actually go anywhere, so we can just walk there or take the bus or drive rather than bring our bikes. Critical Benign (?) Mass?
I'm with Jason on this one. Considering that CM used to be a xerocracy (I think the Interweb has largely replaced it) perhaps the thing to do would be to take a map of Austin and black out the places that CM keeps going, starting with southbound on Guadalupe, make a few hundred copies and pass them out at the west mall. Back to our roots!
Hell yeah! In fact, lets just call it Critical Session and then we'll all just hang out and trick at the capitol instead of actually riding...
I don't mind stopping at the capitol if we're in the area and haven't stopped for a while, but all these mandatory 30 minute stops we seem to have lately are bullshit. I'm for more riding, less stopping.
please no more traffic circle! let's head north/east/west this time!
