I need your help, plus FREE ADS for local businesses!
Hey y'all, I need some assistance. I'm trying to compile a list of all the local bike-related businesses in and around Austin, TX. If you look at the long list of links on the right at the bottom there's a section for "Local Bike Biz". I've added a couple I could think of off the top of my head, but I know there are a TON of businesses that got left off and need represented. If you can think of any, or if you run one yourself, please email me a link and a short description of what they/y'all do, and I'll be sure to include in in the list. Never fear, I do have an ulterior motive for this list but it's not at all sinister...
I just though of this idea about 2 minutes ago but I really like it so I'm gonna run with it: Starting as soon as I can figure out how to make it work I'm going to be running some FREE ADS. Yes, FREE. If you have a local bike business you can get ad space on my site without paying me a dime.
Why? Because I feel like it. I really dig all the local bike businesses (some more than others) and want to send as much money their way as possible, both from my pockets and yours. To this end I'm going to set up a small rotating ad somewhere on the page, but I won't charge anything to host your ad if you're local. If you're not local and want to run an ad, go talk to these guys and they'll hook you up.
A while back I had a conversation about ads with some other local bloggers and was vehemently opposed to turning my site into a cash cow or money generator. Money corrupts in the bad, lame way, and I figure if I was going to be corrupt I wanted to do it with some fun and style. If everything works this'll be a way to get some added exposure for a bunch of awesome locals that y'all might not know about, while not getting into the dirty business of dealing with money. As you can tell by this ramble-y post, I haven't entirely thought this through, but it'll be cool.
I still need to come up with the logistics like the size of the ad and what module to use to make it work, but I wanted to mention it now so that y'all could work with me to get together a comprehensive list of all the local businesses that might possibly benefit from this.
And if it doesn't work, then I'll just delete the ad space and we'll be back to where we were. No sweat.
