Happy Bike Month, Austin!!!
Happy bike month everybody, get on your bikes and ride! There are no end of things to do this May, but if you're bored and can't find something to fill your time with here are a few OTHER places to look for bike events in Austin:
The A2W Comprehensive Cycling Events Calendar
Where: http://austinontwowheels.org/cycling-events-calendar/
Why: This is the meta-calendar, to which all the other calendars and events lists in town roll up to. Elliott and Marcus tireless scour club websites, forums, pages like ATXBS.com, the fixed gear blogs, team pages, shop sites and all the other sources in town to compile this COMPREHENSIVE calendar of events. Some days you'll see 20+ things going on and if only one of them appeals to you, then you've got something to do! Thanks for doing this, y'all.
The "Official" Austin Cycling Association Bike Month Calendar
Where: http://www.austincycling.org/bikemonth
Why: Russell Pickavance is in charge of coordinating bike month this time around, and he's been doing a hell of a job reaching out to all aspects of the cycling community to pull events, rides, races, parties, and all manner of bike events. Take a few moments to poke through his calendar. Many of the events will be familiar to all y'all ATXBS regulars, but a whole mess of them are brand new (to me at least). I'm sure the list of events will only grow as the days roll on, so keep checking back for the latest and greatest.
I plan on attending some new stuff so that I can get a better grasp on what it is to be a cyclist in Austin, and would suggest that y'all do the same. Who knows, maybe mountain bike racing will be your next big passion, or maybe it'll be those 100-mile "century" road rides. You'll never know until you try.
Both of these sites will prove invaluable over the next few weeks, I'm sure. Bookmark 'em.
