If you're going to ride ONE event this Bike Month, make it the Political Pedal.
Hey ya'll, today is the big Bike Month kick-off and to celebrate the city is having a "Political Pedal" ride where everybody meets up at City Hall around 4:45pm and goes on a ride with our city officials. From the sound of things Police Chief Art Acevedo is gonna be there, as well as several City Council members and wannabe-members, bike program people, and all sorts of other bigwigs, so lets represent for the people and show them what Austin's bike culture is about these days. Things have been growing and with the approval of the new bike plan on the horizon, the future is looking bright. If you show up to ONE event (and I know most of y'all are gonna be at a lot more than that), PLEASE make it this one. I think it would do more for the City's perception of cyclists and biker rights to show them a good face at this ride than the dozen Critical Mass rides that happen all year long combined.
Please remember to keep it civil, y'all. We're trying to give them a good impression, so maybe they'll throw us another few bike lanes or something. While I did say "civil", I don't mean "boring". Bring tall bikes, freak bikes, tandems, BMXes, fashion fixies, full team kit, costumes, bike stereos, whatever! Lets have a good time with it. There's going to be a happy hour afterwards at Uncle Billy's Brew-B-Que, so if you can't make the ride drop by Billy's around 6 and grab a beer.
Remember: 4:45pm TODAY at City Hall, near the intersection of Caesar Chavez and Lavaca. See y'all there, and don't be late.
