May (Bike Month) Full Moon Cruise - It's gonna be a BIG'N!
Talk about the stars aligning in our favor for an amazing Bike Month Full Moon Cruise... between the beautiful weather and the fact that the moon rises on a Saturday Night (May 9th), I expect to see a HUGE crowd out for this one. I'm doing my damnedest to have the bike stereo rolling in time, but in any case if Damon keeps the rides rolling like they've been lately, I know it's going to be an unforgettable night of exploration, partying and riding until the wee hours with several hundred of my very best friends. People have been digging on the moon themes, so here's the one for May:
Full Flower Moon - May In most areas, flowers are abundant everywhere during this time. Thus, the name of this Moon. Other names include the Full Corn Planting Moon, or the Milk Moon.
Yeah, I expect a bunch of hippies in floral prints. You can do better than that. Surprise me. 11:59pm, Saturday May 9th. Meet on the Lamar Pedestrian Bridge, bring all your friends, and be prepared for awesome.
my sierra club calendar says the full moon is friday night so shouldn't the full moon bike ride be friday night? doing it saturday is actually a day past the full moon.
Moon calendar here.
For May --
Moon Phases, May 2009
First Quarter - May 1, 20:44
Full Moon - May 9, 04:01
Last Quarter - May 17, 07:26
New Moon - May 24, 12:11
First Quarter - May 31, 03:22
times are in UTC, we're at UTC-5, so the full moon would be 05/08 11:01 PM CDT. So I'd say you're right. And even if the full moon was at 05/09 04:01a local time, 05/08 11:59p would have a fuller moon than 05/09 11:59p.
But either way, the ride is Saturday night. Should still be plenty of moonlight!
You're both correct, I was just going off of what Damon printed on his flyers last month. The 9th is in all the calendars around town, including the bike guide (I believe) so we should stick to it. Next month I'll make sure to post it on the actual night of the full moon, that way all the cycling lycanthropes may gain full enjoyment out of the evening's ride.
Finally, a weekend moon cruise! I was thinking of strapping a box of things to eat and/or drink on the back of my bike for when it get late (I got wicked sugar low on the last cruise I went on). Any suggestions? I might just attach a bag of candy to it and let the masses grab as they will.
about how close to your seat you put that grab bag, folks might getta handful of you...
Jason, I thought your tastes ran more towards the corn-planting side of things...
sounds like this full moon cruze might need a leader. Damon received news today that his acl is torn and there is some other damage to his knee after he hitched the ride under the chevy. rumor has it theres only a few small requirments to lead a full moon cruze in the ATX.
1) you must be knee high to a grasshopper.
2) your bike has to be janky'er than a yellow bike donation.
3) you must have lived in Austin for at least 30yrs with out ever leaving the city limits.
4) ejumacated by AISD.
5) at least 2 felonies.
any leaders?
fixed gears are like butt holes, every one has one.
shit, I gotta ramp up my felonies. Would a Lampasas edukashun be durn near as good?
