VOTE. NOW.
Ok all y'all cyclists out there, the time for voting is RIGHT NOW. You've got less than 7 hours to go until the polls close (7pm), so get off your asses and make your voices heard. This election's probably gonna have a pretty low turnout but it GREATLY affects how things are going to be run in Austin in the coming years, so every vote really does count. We're days away from City Council passing the brand new Bike Plan, and if that all goes through then the people we elect today are going to be the people putting the new plan into practice. If you want what's good for cyclists (and I believe for Austin in general), make sure you get Chris Riley elected into Position 1. Several of the other candidates in the races interest me, but I think more than anyone else Chris is going to be instrumental for re-mapping the Austin traffic landscape in the near future.
I know there are a lot of great events coming up today like the Poker Ride, Ladie's Alleycat, or the Full Moon Cruise, and though I hope get in on the rides at some point, if you only do ONE thing all day long...
If you need to figure out where you go to vote, here's where you do it: http://www.traviscountytax.org/showVoterNameSearch.do
In fact, why not make an event of it? Round up a bunch of neighborhood cyclists, ride to the polls, get your votes in, and then start the pub crawl a little early. Just remember if you're going to drink and vote, try to vote THEN drink! I'm normally never serious about politics (or anything else, for that matter) but this time I'M SERIOUS. Go vote now, and you'll have the gratitude of the entire Austin cycling community.
