This Friday is the "official" Bike to Work Day, which means that all over town you can stop in from 7-9am at various spots to get a breakfast taco, some beverage, and maybe a few freebies. By "all over town", of course we mean MAINLY within the central city area so if you live and commute south of Barton Springs, west of Mopac, or north of North Loop (with the exception of the Music City Cycles and Far West bridge stops), you're outta luck. But that's cool, just take a short detour through downtown to get your fill! The ACA has been so kind as to map all the locations out for us, so if you really want to get down on the free grub, hit a couple of them.

If you want a short concise list of the stops so that you can print it out and check them off as you hit each one, here it is:

__ Whole Foods (6th and Lamar)
__ One Texas Center (505 Barton Springs Rd.)
__ City Hall Plaza
__ Bike Texas (1902 E. 6th)
__ Mellow Johnny's (4th and Nueces)
__ Wheatsville Coop (3101 Guadalupe)
__ Bicycle Sport Shop (517 S. Lamar)
__ Freewheeling Bicycles (24th and San Gabriel)
__ Orange Bike Project and Longhorn Po-boys(Speedway between Dean Keeton and 21st St.)
__ The Peddler and Texas Culinary Academy(119 E. North Loop Blvd.)
__ Shoal Creek Blvd. at Far West Right of Way (across from Northwest Park)
__ Music City Cycles (6301 W. Parmer Ln., #504)
__ El Chilito (2219 Manor Rd)

If anyone actually makes it to all 13 stops I'll be super impressed, and you'll be sick to your stomach.

Come on out all you slackers, flex workers or recession victims! Let's take over the Austin city streets Friday morning.

The Juan Big Breakfast Ride - Celebrate Bike to Work Day by not going to work! Plan your route and visit as many Bike to Work Day stations as you can in 2 short hours. This is all in fun so ride safe and take the time to thank the station volunteers! Here's how it works, at each breakfast stop take a digital photo of yourself with enough detail so we can tell which stop you're at. Make your way to Mellow Johnny's or our Hyde Park partner The Peddler Bike Shop at 9:00 to submit your photos. At each store the male and female with the most stops will be awarded some recognition. Ties go to the first arrival.

I'll be at Mellow Johnny's at 9:00 to judge winners there - after I hit a few stations myself.

Eileen

Eileen, have I mentioned lately that you rule? If not I should try and do so more often.

A `moonlight towers' style ride with a few hundred people, going from place to place to place.

Alas, it's not going to happen between 7a and 9a on a friday, and even if it did it would probably prompt many of these places to not do this again next year, making it a really bad idea, but still ...

And unfortunately, none of these are even remotely close to any of the routes I take from home to work, and I'd probably go in after 9am anyways, so no free food for me. Unless I decide to ride downtown for lunch ... which I just might do.
