I like the sound of this, with the exception of the cruel and unusual start time...

ride

What:
An as-yet-to-be-determined conglomeration of cyclists on a 30-mile ride. The ride is focused on fixed-gear bikes, but everyone is welcome. We will proceed at a social pace from the UT campus eastward around Decker Lake and then back to campus. The terrain is flat to moderately-rolling.

When:
Sunday, May 31st, ride rolls at 8:20 AM.

Where:
Ride rolls from Posse East (San Jacinto at Duval).

Some Observations

  • Every cyclist is responsible for his or her own safety and well-being. The guiding assumption is that everyone is familiar with basic rules of cycling safety and has enough hours in the saddle to feel comfortable with his or her ride. Use of helmets is recommended. Use of headphones, earbuds, Blue Tooth headsets or any other form of electronic distraction is discouraged. All traffic laws and rules of right-of-way will be observed. Here’s the deal:

    SAFETY FIRST!!!!!

If someone gets killed, it ruins the ride for everyone.

  • We’ll plan to do a stop to refill fluids immediately after the Decker Lake loop. This will be at around 20 miles. The loop itself is just over 11 miles, and it is undeveloped; no convenience stores, no toilets, no civilization.

  • There is no SAG support on this ride. Bring a spare tube and something that will inflate it.

  • The purpose of this ride is for everyone to have a good time and, we hope, to become a better cyclist. All skill levels are welcome; just consider the following. This is a 30-mile ride that encompasses rolling terrain. There will be some climbing (about 1400 feet of total ascent). If this is consistent with your riding experience, or is perhaps slightly more challenging than what you’re accustomed to, you should be able to complete the ride successfully.

A fixed gear-centric (though all are welcome) out and back around Decker Lake that obeys all traffic laws. Should be interesting. They sound serious about that start time so don't be late.

hahaha a long ride filled with intermissions of bar spinzzzz and backward circlezz RADDDD!!! Dont forget to wear your comfortable vans and bring an extra bandana seeing as how the first one could get drenched because you will be moving faster then 10 miles an hour.
