Tasty Touring presents: South Austin Food Trailer Tour
I've labored back and forth over posting this one due to their helmet requirement, but in the end I went ahead because:
a) I LOVE food
b) I LOVE group rides that include food stops
c) I'm good at ignoring helmet rules, especially when food is involved
So with that out of the way, the Tasty Touring folks are hosting rather interesting sounding pub restaurant crawl this Saturday morning. You can get the full details on their Facebook event (as well as RSVP) but here's the gist for those of you who aren't facebook-inclined:
Looking forward to Saturday! It's going to be in the 90s and the Republic of Texas Bike Rally is this weekend. The three most important things you need to remember:
1. Bring/wear sunscreen
2. Wear your helmet (Heh)
3. Bring cashAs always, this tour is self-guided and there won't be a map so if you need one, make sure to review online and print to take along on the ride.
We'll start at Chris' Little Chicago on the west side of Lamar between Ben White and Barton Skyway and cruise up to the muffin bus outside of Taco Xpress at la Casa Drive and then Lulu B's near Oltorf for some Vietnamese goodies.
Turn right on Oltorf if you like and you will see Good Seed Organic on the north side of the road. If you're lucky, the taco bus that is sometimes set up on the corner of Thornton and Oltorf serves awesome Gorditas.
From there, we'll split off into two gangs:
Gang A: South Congress Parade of Trailers
Hey Cupcake
Cornucopia
Crepes & Paninis
Vaquero Cocina
Mambo Berry
Armadillo Coffee & Tea
Roppolos
The Mighty Cone
Crepes MilleGang B: South First Badass Trailers
El Primo
Torchy's Tacos
Shuggies
Treat
Izzoz Tacos
Holy CacaoStill have room?
Cruise over to Molly's Sno Cones and/or Flip Happy Crepes on the corner of Barton Springs and Lamar for something sweet.Wait 15 minutes and then bike over to Barton Springs for a lazy afternoon baking in the sun and swimming off those calories in the wonderful pool!
For champion tourers, Giovanni's on Lamar and Barton Skyway opens at 5 p.m. and serves delicious pizza as well as pasta. It's BYOB so grab a sixer from the convenience store and chill!
See you there!
Sounds like a pretty excellent time, not to mention all the AMAZING stops they have planned for tasty comida. Of all the places mentioned the one I most recommend would have to be Lulu B's Vietnamese Food trailer. Torchy's makes great tacos and Ropollo's does good pizza, but nothing tops a grilled shrimp Bahn Mi sandwich from Lulu B's.
Remember to be at Chris' Little Chicago around 11am to get in on the ride. There are already over 40 people RSVP'd through the Facebook page, so it should be pretty interesting to see how this works out.
