Local motorist arrested for hit-and-run collision against cyclist in North East Austin
I didn't see it on The Blotter or amongst my usual sources, but Elliot from Austin on Two Wheels mentioned a story from last week that KVUE ran regarding a motorist being arrested for a hit-and-run collision against a cyclist late Sunday (the 7th) evening. Here's the juicy bits:
An Austin man has been charged with failure to stop and render aid after a witness says he ran over a bicyclist Sunday night in Northeast Austin.
A witness told police she was behind a pickup truck driven by Jorge Rojas-Hernandez, 34, when she saw a violent crash on the Interstate 35 service road between Braker and Parmer.
The witness called 911 after seeing a man lying in the roadway with serious injuries. Hernandez was arrested a short time later.
The bicyclist -- Theodore Arias -- is in critical condition with a lacerated liver and numerous broken bones.
Rage. Someone who hits another person and doesn't stop should go to jail. Period. Thanks for bringing this to our attention, Elliott. I hope Jorge Rojas-Hernandez finds himself in front of a bicycle riding judge on a bad day.
