Pedal-in Film Festival - TOMORROW!
I just pulled a wadded up flyer out of my wallet that contained the following information:
Here's what Simon has to say about things...
There will be a pedal-in film festival at 8pm on April 25th in Monkey Wrench Book's backyard (110 E. North Loop). This is a benefit for Skillshare Austin, a new organization raising money to throw a weekend skillsharing event. The film festival is free but Skillshare Austin will be accepting donations for popcorn and beer. The films that will be shown are independent movies about bikes (that you have not already seen!) Skillshare Austin volunteers will be signing up teachers for workshops, as well as selling patches, t-shirts, and other *exciting* items to raise money.
THIS JUST IN!

This 38-minute documentary follows the adventures of S.C.A.B. (Skids Creating Apocalyptic Bicycles), a roving gang of bicyclist- artist- philosophers hell-bent on ridding the world of automobiles. Using trash nabbed from the Madison streets, S.C.A.B. recycles junked ten-speeds and kids' scooters into nightmarish vehicles of urban terrorism. Between infiltrating events sponsored by tamer bicycle enthusiasts and wedging ill-fitting Huffies together with hacksaws and butterknives, S.C.A.B. members find time to muse on anarchy, consumer culture, proper bunny-hopping technique, the failure of the media and the purpose of art. "It's an experiment in phenomenology," says S.C.A.B. co-founder Michael Spelman, "but it's also nice to piss off cars."

Two bikes, who were joined at the diaphragm and pancreas and whose livers were fused together, have been successfully separated after seven hours of surgery. Their hearts had to be repositioned. For the first time in their short lives, the bikes are now sleeping in separate beds.

More than just a montage of bicycle crashes, scabbed knees and techno-backbeats, Dirt Divas investigates the phenomenon of free-riding and mountain bike racing, unveiling what drives these women to push themselves to the limits of mental and physical endurance, then keep pushing for more.
