July Full Moon Cruise! - Buck Moon
As of yesterday we passed the new moon, which means it's only a matter of time until the next FULL MOON CRUISE! Tuesday night, July 7th at 11:59pm on the Lamar Pedestrian Bridge is the place and time to congregate. Much like last month I have no idea where it's heading, who's leading it, or any other information for that matter, so if someone wants to come up with a route or a flyer, go crazy! Otherwise, I guess I'll be just as surprised as y'all with what happens in a couple weeks. For those of you wanting to know the history behind this months' moon, here's what the Farmers' Almanac has to say about the July full moon:
Full Buck Moon
Bucks begin to grow new antlers at this time. This full Moon was also known as the Thunder Moon, because thunderstorms are so frequent during this month.
So get buck, grow some antlers, and have a great ride. "Thunder" moon? Sounds like loud music is in order...
yeah, i can't wait to see the turnout this year with all the great organizing going on lately. The harvest moon cruise is the Big Daddy of Austin "cruzes" indeed. Houston has a pretty killer one nearer to Halloween, but I guess ATX has that shit now, too. Houston's has maybe 1500 folks, but it's police "escorted", pretty family friendly, is supposed to cost $$, and overall a totally different experience from the Austin version, understandably so.
... but I'm not sure if it's more important to try to catch the full moon or to just pick the simplest way of determining the right date.
Here's the times of the full moons for the rest of the year --
Tue July 7th 4:22am central time
{if the ride started July 6th 11:59pm, we'd even catch the full moon!}
Wed August 5th 7:55pm
Fri September 4th 11:02am
Sun October 4th 1:10am
Mon November 2nd 1:14pm
Wed December 2nd 1:31am
Thu December 31st 1:13pm (yes, a blue moon!)
New Years Eve Full moon ride? That should be awesome, as long as we don't have any problems with drunk drivers ...
Here are the dates of the High Times calendar, from which Damon's original ride dates originate:
7/7
8/5
9/4 - this one is the harvest moon cruise so I'm guessin its on 9/5.
10/4
11/2
12/2
12/31
I honestly don't give a damn when we ride, I'll be there. What do y'all think?
... sounds like a good reason to me.
Explain the Harvest Moon thing though. If I recall correctly, the normal Moonlight cruise just isn't done that month, being replaced by the Harvest Moon ride. Or did I miss a ride last year?
That's correct. The Harvest Moon Ride falls on the nearest Saturday to the actual Harvest Moon Cruze (September's full moon), and replaces the actual full moon Cruise for the month. The annual ride has been going for a lot longer than the monthly rides (20+ years) and takes precedence.
