Pain and agony, one Belly-flop at a time...
Last night was a BADASS Urban ride, with a mid-ride break at Barton Springs for the 9pm free swim and an impromptu belly-flop competition:
ROUGH! I missed most of the competition myself, only getting to see the last round of contestants first-hand, but from the sound of things Quincey (OUCH at 3:50) owned it. The grand prize was a $30 gift certificate from Ozone (thanks guys!), hence the enthusiasm.
After the swim I managed to case it jumping a curb and flat my back tire, but thanks to several people stopping and helping or keeping me company while I cursed my broken pump and ripped tube, the ordeal was a lot less aggrivating than it could have been. After a few minutes the 1x1 was up and running again.
Other than that, I think the ride was relatively pain-free. The pace was definitely "social", and I can't imagine we covered more than 8-10 miles between the bridge and the bar. Speaking of the bar, I hadn't ever really hung out there before but Club DeVille has a pretty excellent setup for music and outdoor drinking shenanigans. Once again they hooked the cyclists up with free beer (Lonestar I'm told), which actually lasted until after midnight! I was surprised with the number of bikers that showed up for the ride (estimated at over 150), but I'm sure the music and dancing distracted enough of them that the hard drinkers got their fill of the free booze before it ran out.
Thanks for putting these rides on, y'all! Can't wait 'till next week, or 'till Keith's up-coming Monday rides that are gonna be a little harder riding, a little harder drinking, and a little more crazy than what you're used to. Just you wait and see what he's got cooked up for us...
Fantastic ride. The addition of Barton Springs is great!
