My friend Russell directed me to a very interesting article about a trail being planned that will connect downtown Austin to Sunset Valley, and eventually continue on into Hayes County for a total of 35 miles of bikeable, walkable, car-free thoroughfare. Though the article is from May it's very relevant to us now as they begin sanitizing portions of the Greenbelt to facilitate this trail.

Phase 1 connects Barton Springs to Sunset Valley via the Greenbelt, and is the most exciting part of the trail for me since this will give me a new and very fun commute route into south Austin. They're planning on having that built by next spring, at a cost of $250k. Not too bad! I'm excited to see how this develops, especially with a new bike plan and a much more bike-friendly city council.
