Social Cycling ATX presents: Thursday Urban Night Ride!
Almost 7 days have passed since the last time we did this, which means it's time for another Urban Night Ride brought to you by the folks at Social Cycling ATX. Over a hundred riders have been coming to this event week after week for the past month and a half or so, and it's taking on a life of its own. Free beer and swimming holes keep this ride rolling, and the parties at the end if always a blast. Here's the latest from Keith:
This Thursday we are playing more games in the park. Get ready for more Texas footdown, more slow races, more cargo bikes and more night riding fun.
We meet at the Lamar Street Pedestrian Bridge at 7:30. We will leave a little after 8, when all of our friends have arrived. We'll take a nice flat leisurely cruise that takes us through Zilker Park, over the Town Lake, then following it's North shore until we hit Metz Park. There we will play some games, have some refreshments and chill. Ozone Bike Department, Bicycle Sports Shop and Sweet Leaf Iced Tea hooked us up with some prizes to give ya'll, so bring it! From there we will go to a cool little bar named Shangri-La on the east side. Shangri-La is nice enough to extend to us our now familiar free beer/cheap beer combo. They are cool enough to be showing RAD on the big screens while we drink our drinks. To boot, they have a nice selection of retro video games, so lug some quarters along with you on the ride. Who knows, maybe we will even have a bmx trick competition to keep it 80's all night.
The route is very flat. We extended it just a bit from the last park ride. You can check it out here.
We had around 150 people last week. If you have never ridden in a group that large, join us, it is a treat.
What you will need to bring:
water and other refreshments: it's hot out there.
bike lock
lights
a valid ID stating you are 21 if you want to join us at shangri-laWe have a facebook page if you want to participate there as well.
Bottom line, be there Thursday, 7:30pm on the Lamar Ped Bridge. Ride your bike, watch RAD, drink free beer.
BTW this SHOULD go without saying, but it's not going to because from the sound of things a lot of you aren't doing it:
Was that loud enough? Now once more for good measure...
Seriously, it's not that hard. You take a dollar out of your wallet and put it in the jar when you go for the free drink. What, no dollars in your wallet? Then you need to stop taking the free drinks. These guys work for a living, help 'em out a little bit here. If bikers keep being assholes and not tipping then we're gonna be known as that huge pack of assholes who never tip, we're not going to get invited back for free beer, and then we ALL lose. So once more for good measure...
BARTENDER, ASSHOLE.
If I see any of y'all not tipping I'm going to give you so much shit in person it's gonna cause a scene, you'll get embarrassed, and I won't care because I have no shame. Just do it, it'll save us both a lot of trouble.
