Thursday Night Social Ride - The Bellyflop Strikes Back!
Keith just released the info for thus Thursday's Urban Night Ride. Basically, meet in the Ped bridge at 7:50pm and expect more of this:
Now that you've got the picture, lets move on to the thousand words...
It’s been hot, really hot and it doesn’t look to be getting any cooler. Does that mean you have to stay inside under the AC, watching Night Rider reruns?
HELL NO!
This weeks ride is going back to the cool waters of Barton Springs. We’ll take a nice ride through the Bouldin neighborhood and stop once for any refreshments that you might want to purchase. Then we will bomb down Robert E Lee Blvd for a heroic return to Barton Springs. There will then commence a belly flop contest of epic proportions. For those of you who missed the last time we did this, here is how that goes down. Winners will receive some sweet bike prizes courtesy of Ozone Bike Department, Bicycle Sports Shop and the genius local inventor (and Urban Night Rider) of the Flashbak. Quincy, you hearing this? All floppers contact me on the pedestrian bridge for details.
After we are nice and chilly, we are taking a nice slow cruise to Club Deville. Free/cheap beer will be available to all of our riders. In addition, a regular urban rider, DJ Kitty Wolf will be spinning what she describes as “70’s and 80’s funky disco, dance-pop, 80’s/90’s booty bass hip-hop and dancey punk” out on the patio. So it looks like another dance party is heading our way.
See ya’ll on the bridge!

If you haven't been on one in the last few weeks, these rides have been getting ridiculously huge lately and turning into a surly mob barely contained by the Herculean efforts of a few brave souls. Remember, this isn't Critical Mass folks. Stop for the red lights, stay in the right lane, and don't fuck with the cars. Also MAKE SURE YOU TIP if you drink the free beer!!! I can't emphasize this enough, if you want to be invited back to the bars for the free booze, make sure you make the bartenders happy. They report back to the bosses about how cool of a crowd we are, and if they give two thumbs down we're fucked. If you're ever stuck standing there in front of the bar with a dollar in your wallet wondering which way you should go, just ask yourself "What would Billy Mays do?"
Then bust that dollar and drop it in the jar. Good biker.
What's with the trend of stopping at a store to buy refreshments? Peoples should bring their stuff with them. IMO, the stops at convenience stores are lame and a buzzkill.
Stopping at the convenience store allows for the more discerning alcoholics on the ride to pick up some beer that is colder and less agitated than what they would have been toting around. Other folks take advantage of the stop to work on their own preference of buzz. But, hey, hayduke, if it's harshing your particular mellow, feel free to continue without us; you know where we're going.
