Looking for VERY casual riding group
I live in the Crestview neighborhood in North/Central. I haven't really found anything about very casual groups riding in this area. Everything seems to focus on downtown, Eastside or Southside. Also, most of the rides I read about seem to focus on people who know way more about it than I do. I don't know anything about bikes or the subculture really, but would love to be able to meet some new people in the ATX.
Me: Been riding for less than a year. I ride a stock Scott hybrid. That is all I know about it. It is my favorite bike I have owned, but it is really nothing fancy. I am not in great shape, but do not ride for getting in shape. I ride because I do not want to own a car. It is how I get around town. Most of my riding is very short (less than 5 miles - I actually rode to downtown once. It was a bitch getting back home.)
I would love to be pointed in the direction of a group of people who like to get together to ride socially, and probably end up at some bar along Burnet Road or elsewhere in the area. I have never posted here, so I don't know if this is cool, but email me at: jwbilboATyahooDOTcom.
Welcome! Try and make it out to one of the many social rides that Jason lists that happen every week. True, they do seem to focus on downtown and east side, but that's probably just because that is the center of Austin. Take a look at the Austin Bike Routes or search on Ride the City for a safe route from Crestview to downtown. Crestview is a great place for bike commuters. If you cannot keep up with the group, ask where the ride is ending and meet the group there if you fall behind. Don't worry about how much you know about bikes and the subculture. The more rides you do, the more you will learn. If there is something particular you want to know about, ask the other people on the ride for advice.
