42below Gold Sprints are HAPPENING!
Last week (don't recall the day) a bunch of us cruised down to Beso's to take part in the 42Below Gold Sprints challenge. Unfortunately I haven't found a lot of info out about the event on the interwebz, but I do know that Russell from Psychlist is running the local setup, and is going to be hosting races at various locations on the following dates and times:
July 27th Six Lounge 6p - 10p
July 30th Cuba Libre 7p - 11p
August 1st The Marq 10p - 1a
August 5th Cedar Street ? - ?
August 8th Scoot Inn ? - ? (BFF)
August 13th Cuba Libre 7p - 11p
August 14th Beso Cantina 10p - 1a
The setup is two track bikes side-by-side, running on rollers and attached to a laptop computer. This laptop is attached to a projector, which shows the racers' names, speed, distance and time on a big screen. The setup is powered by OpenSprints, which is a 100% open-source hardware/software system for running Gold Sprints. Here's an example of what to expect from a couple weeks ago in Chicago:
Since it's being hosted by a vodka company you must be 21+ to compete. At the end of the event, whoever has the fastest time gets a FREE track bike! I was in the #1 spot until some frat dude knocked me out by almost an entire second, so expect to see me out there one of those days trying to reclaim the glory. Thanks for running this shit Russell, and if you have any flyers or more info about it, please let me know.
