Bike Superhero at work: Leslie pushes the issue...
Leslie just emailed me and pointed me to her latest blog entry where she explains the latest results from her Freedom of Information Act Request from Gov. Perry's office for all documents pertaining to SB 488 and his veto of the bill. I won't spoil all her findings, but it looks like one of the AGAINST letters (of which there were actually only 38 once the duplicates/incorrectly assigned letters were removed) was written by none other than Kenneth Bain Sr., father of the same Kenneth Bain Jr. who killed 2 cyclists with his Lincoln Navigator about a year ago, but was out on $50k bail less than 24 hours later. Here's his letter:
The proposed law to fine drivers passing too close to bicyclists is absurd. I bike all the time and I am smart enough to stay off the streets. Roads are for vehicles not slow bikes. I want more bike trails. This law will drive a larger wedge between motorists &bikers. You will have radical bikers taking license numbers of cars and reporting them because they thought they passed too close. If you sign this bill you are letting a small minority rule the voting masses and it will not sit well at election time I can assure you. Let the bill die.
Guess he wants to look out for his son's future indiscretions? FUCK THIS GUY. If you want more of the story, check out Leslie's blog. Thanks for keeping at this Leslie! You're truly an asset not only to the local community but to Texas cyclists at large.
Leslie is my hero - nail that bastard to the wall!
