The local Onion A.V. Club just ran a "Points of Contention" article about Critical Mass. Rather excellent timing, being that tomorrow is the big ride. In the article they address some of the complaints about critical mass that we most often hear, and bring up the excellent term "Critical Massholes". Though they look at both sides of the argument, their verdict actually seems to support the majority of us:
"Despite a few dickheads, most of the Critical Mass crew are cordial and polite about their politics—and their pro-pedaling point is valid. Maybe it's time to ditch the H2 and join them."
Overall, not to shabby an article. Thanks for taking a look, Onion.
A Masshole is and always has been a person who hails from Massachusetts. It also carries the implication of being an asshole driver, which is ironic.
... some terribly clever person came up with the term `Critical Masshole' to refer to people who ride in Critical Mass.
Here's an example, though of course he's not the first or last.
Your meaning is certainly older, but not the only one ...
Yeah I guess I hear the term Critical Masshole and think about a Massachusetts CM rider. But it's a good term, however used. Though, in this case, Critical Masshole seems to mean an antagonistic CM rider, whereas Masshole is just a derogatory term for someone from Massachusetts, regardless of attitude and transportation mode.
