NATIONAL Bike to Work Day
Hey y'all, this Friday is the ONE DAY A YEAR they want EVERYONE biking to work! Just kidding, really you should be biking to work as often as you can but for some reason the powers-that-be have decided that this Friday in particular would be a special one. I guess it's better than another holiday celebrating oppression or forced genocide via a policy of manifest destiny. Check out the OFFICIAL INFORMATION on the website of the venerable League of American Bicyclists, who used to have the infinitely cooler name "League of American Wheelmen". Hell, I think I'm going to keep using that name. It's so much better.
Maybe some of y'all will find this funny. This is the graphic my work decided to use for their bike-to-work day blurb on our website...
Sweet tarck bike brah! Where's ur arrospok and bandanna? I guess this shit's catching on if corporate ad-copy is rockin' the fixed gear...
Oh and I totally jacked this information from the ACA's website... there's going to be lots of breakfast stops and free shit at the following locations from 7am-9am Friday morning (I plan on hitting at least 3, mwahahahaha):
- Whole Foods (6th and Lamar)
- City Hall Plaza (sponsored by City of Austin employees)
- One Texas Center (505 Barton Springs Rd.) (also sponsored by City of Austin employees -- get FREE breakfast and tips on maintaining your bicycle from Yellow Bike trained repair mechanics: patching flats, tuning-up brakes and shifters, and adjusting seat and handlebar position)
- Texas Bicycle Coalition (1902 E. 6th)
- Mellow Johnny's (4th and Nueces)
- Wheatsville Coop (3101 Guadalupe)
- Bicycle Sport Shop (517 S. Lamar)
- Shoal Creek Blvd. at the Far West Bridge (sponsored by Clif Bar)
- Music City Cycles (6301 W. Parmer Ln., #504)
- Jo's Coffee (1300 S. Congress, sponsored by Jo's and Clif Bar)
- Freewheeling Bicycles (24th and San Gabriel. Free commuter coffee mugs while they last! If distance is a problem for you, park in Freewheeling's ample parking lot, have a bite of breakfast, and ride the rest of the way.)
I'll post more locations as I find out about them.
