Word of the Monday Heavy Metal Fitness Ride just got published on facebook, so here are the details you crave:

Hey Metal Heads! You ready for some South side action?

The hills of the West have provided some good pain and pleasure, but we are going to mix it up a bit and head down south again for some faster riding and good times.

If you've been under a rock and haven't attended the Bicycle Film Festival... you have missed out. The fine folks from New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Washington DC, Denver and Pensecola have put some serious hurt on me on the polo court. But that will not keep me from pushing the pace on a now familiar route- http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/MetalFitness2

The particulars...

Meet at the Pfluger Pedestrian Bridge on Monday at 7pm. We’ll leave the bridge at 7:30pm SHARP! Don’t be late as there’s no catching us once we leave. (Yes, that’s a challenge). Expect a reasonably fast pace, covering 25.6 miles on an urban route. Next, we’ll hit Barton Springs for some cold water goodness. Once we’re nice and chilly, it’s to the Jackalope, always generous to the two-wheeled kind. Once we get there, expect free beer, heavy metal madness, half-priced pizza and happy hour ($2.00 wells) all damn night.

This is not a your normal road ride. This is a fast paced urban ride for all types of bikes. Single-speed, fixed-geared, multi-geared, bmx, road bikes and mountain bikes and all other kinds of bikes are welcome. You will be riding with friends, not your mother, so bring all of your gear. YOU NEED TO HAVE WATER, tools to change a tire, a tube or patch kit and a pump, your swimsuit and a lock. The pace will be pretty fast. If you can’t keep up, that’s cool, just drop off and meet us for swimming and drinks later.

The Heavy Metal Fitness Ride is for cyclists that enjoy riding in a diverse group and like a little pain, followed by a little pleasure in the form of chilly spring water, free beer and heavy metal music.

Not even two days of INTENSE polo playing is going to keep Keith from killing it on the now-familiar south course. The hills aren't as bad as the last few weeks, but it's still hot as hell out so bring lots of water and all the repair gear for a flat tire. It happens, and getting stranded sucks. After the ride stick with the crew for a quick dip in the springs and free beer at The Jackelope, host of last night's final Bike Film Festival after-party. Like I needed another reason to love that bar...
