Thursday Night Social Ride - the one with OPTIONS!

If any of you have been on the Thursday Night Social Rides lately, you know how big they've gotten. My first social ride was maybe 40-50 people, now they're easily 4-5 times that large! 250+ people is an impossible group to herd, and there's been a lot of talk about how to keep that massive a crew from running to wild, getting too crazy, and causing problems with the local constabulary. Of all the suggestions mentioned, I think what Keith and Brooks have come up with the best idea of all: Give the riders OPTIONS! Read what they say on the facebook page for the full details:

Hey there everyone. The Bicycle Film Festival was a blast. I hope all of you got to go to some of the screenings, parties and tournaments that were happening.

This week Social Cycling ATX is offering something new. Options.

I'm taking folks swimming at Barton Springs and Brooks is taking a group to Jo's Coffee on South Congress for a screening of Freedom Riders (http://www.freedomridersthemovie.com/) which is a really cool documentary about the early days of mountain biking and trail building. The tickets for the screening are $10 which you can purchase at the door. The event is being sponsored by Bicycle Sports Shop and proceeds will go to help The Austin Ridge RIders.

After both groups ride/swim/watch movies for a while we are having a little party at our newest bar sponsor, Creekside Lounge. They will have some iced down kegs for us on the back patio. You will be able to bring your bike in as well. After the weekly free beer has been drunk, they will be having some nice cheap drink specials for you if you are still thirsty. Thanks, Creekside!

TIME: Meet up around 7:30, we leave at 8 sharp.
PLACE: Pfluger Pedestrian Bridge
BRING: Bike, lock, lights, swimsuit, Valid ID stating you are 21 if you want to join us at the Creekside Lounge.

We ride at a nice social pace, stay in the right lane, obey traffic laws and have fun. Please ride safely as you are responsible for your own safety. Mishaps can spoil your fun.

Great plan folks! If you haven't seen the Freedom Riders trailer I suggest you take a gander. It's $10 to check it out and the proceeds go to the Austin Ridge Riders mountain bike club, a local riding, trail maintenance, and cyclist advocacy group. Bunch of badass folks, and pretty much the people you have to thank for all the fine trails around town. If you don't have the $10 the rest of the crowd will be going to the free swim, so you won't be out in the cold (you'll be IN IN THE COLD) if you skip the flick. Afterwards everybody meets up to swap stories and get social over some free beer. Thanks for everything Keith and Brooks! This sounds excellent.
