Update: I JUST got word from Doug, the cyclist injured in the accident. Sounds like the motorcycle ran the stop sign at a fairly decent clip and t-boned Doug. Here's what he has to day:

The man on the motorcycle ran the stop sign going 30-35 mph (according to his statement to the police). I arrived at the intersection before him and made a complete stop at the stop sign. I saw the motorcyclist approching but was confident that he would stop at his stop sign, but he didn't.

I was taken to Brackenridge. My shoulder was dislocated and I have a lot of scrapes and bruises (both internal and external) along my midsection and knees. I also have a pretty big gash above my right eye. I was at the hospital until 12:30 AM. The friend who picked up my bike had to stay with me the rest of the night so she could wake me up every two hours to ask me my name (to check for signs of a concussion).

Glad to hear you're recovering, and I've got my fingers crossed that the motorists insurance properly compensates you for their clients negligence. Hell, it's how I bought bikes #3 and #5.

Yesterday as I was biking down to the Social Ride with my lady I passed the scene of an accident. What struck me as odd was that there were no cars around, only a couple people sitting on the curb or standing around, a bike leaning against a fence, a parked motorcycle and a whole bunch of cops and EMS folks. Turns out it was a collision between the motorcycle and the bicycle! Here's what someone who hung at the scene for a bit had to say about it:

...there was a collision Wed. pm around 7:00-7:15 on Woodrow at Northloop.

The guy on the bicycle is named Doug, and he works at Central Market in the deli. He was taken to Brack by ambulance. The police said he seemed to be not badly injured, although it is possible that his shoulder was at least out of place. He had some bad spots, that's for sure. He seemed to say he lived up around 183.

We called a woman that he knows, who came to pick up his bike. She thought the frame was bent. He was really worried about that bike and said it is his main source of transportation. It is a silver frame, and the top tube, if I recall, was autographed "to Doug". I couldn't read the rest of the writing.

Knowing where he lives means he probably takes the exact same route to work as I do, and I CONSTANTLY see drivers rolling stops and not looking both ways properly. Cyclists do it too obviously, but as the vulnerable traveller we really need to do our utmost to watch out for everything around us and react to it. Don't expect the cars to always stop for you. I hope your injuries weren't severe and you heal up quick, Doug. If y'all know more about this collision, let me know.
