The full scoop on Sunday's Bike PSA filming. Get there EARLY!
This showed up in the email box yesterday, but I've been super busy in real life and as a result I've been very tardy in updating here. My bad. I actually went to the meeting last weekend and the people there were VERY OPEN to all walks of cyclists participating in the PSA. The wider and more diverse crowd of cyclists the better. Since this isn't a city sponsored video there's no nonsense about non-helmeted riders or open toed shoes being banned. Show up in what you bike in, on your bike, and you'll be in the video. I plan on cruising down on the tall bike myself. Here's the deets:
You are receiving this communiqué because you either ride a bike, or you have expressed interest in helping with this PSA.
We will begin staging cars at 6 am, meeting under I-35 at Lady Bird Lake. We'll have coffee and pasties (Jason: Pasties? Sounds SEXY!) their for all***. If you are a car operator please bring a paddle or broom stick for pushing your door open, utensil should be 4ft or longer, a strap is handy for pulling the door shut.
Sunday, August, 23....6AM - 11AM
***Coffee and Pastries will abound for the early birds.***Cars - poles and straps - 6AM
Cameras - tripods, - assignments at 6am as cars stage.
Bikes - 7am
I've got pdf copies of the shot list and the story boards if y'all are interested.
I'm serious about what I said above. Both Eileen Schaubert (chief safety lady at the Austin Cycling Association) AND Preston Tyree (Director of Education at League of American Bicyclists) both said that they want cyclists WITH AND WITHOUT helmets to be involved. It was even specifically mentioned. Beyond that, they need fixie riders, car drivers/door openers (bring a broom, paddle or stick with a hook to operate the door) and possibly even a "stunt cyclist" to crash into a door for one shot. I think we've got that one covered but if you want to do it show up anyway, just in case.
