UPDATE: We got a laptop for them so we're taken care of. Thanks for all the offers, y'all! I don't care what everyone says about the Austin biking community, y'all are ok in my book. ;)

I just got the following email...

...last nite (Thurs) I was helping out at Yellow Bike when some kids stole the computer they have to log on and to use for information. What made it even worse is that one of the co-ordinators (and volunteer), Patrick (Ed: Russell), had his dog down there and I believe it chased after the folks that took the computer and was hit by a car. I don't believe the dog was killed, but as Patrick (Ed: Russell) left with another volunteer, he told me that he was taking it to the vet..that he believed the dog suffered a broken rib (Ed: Unfortunately the dog passed away). I am not clear about all of the details as it was slightly chaotic at the end of the night there. The police had been called, but had not arrived when I left. Anyway, I am not the best as far as getting the word out that the shop will probably need a new laptop and or that a volunteer may need some help for a vet bill. I don't know how informed you are about Yellow Bike, but I have read many of your posts through Bike Austin and know that you are very informed about Austin's bicycling community. I thought I would email someone who might be better at getting the word out...

WHAT THE FUCK. If anyone has a spare computer or anything, I'm sure the amazing people at YBP would love to know about it. I'm going up there tonight and'll try to get more information, but damn that's just shitty. Who steals a non-profit's computer?!? It better not have been a biker. If so c'mon guys, do the right thing.

Hell, I've got some old computer parts laying around. If anyone has a spare case that'll house an ATX board and/or a monitor, let me know. I've got all the other parts we'd need.
