Update: A lot of discussion has occured in the Bike Mojo Austin BMX/DJ forum about the vandalism. Speculation is ranging from this being performed by some hot-head neighbors to it being possible sabotage by some pirate riders who have been fucking with the pump track lines as of late. Not content to just damage the track, they punctured holes in watering cans, stole a pump, damaged another, and wreaked as much havoc to the course as possible with a pickaxe.

The same thing happened at Red Box down south a couple evenings ago, so it looks like someone has it out for the trails around town. Keep an eye out y'all, and if you see or hear anything about the perpetrators, let me know. I'll make sure the right people are notified.

The story has a happy ending though, as a bunch of regulars made it out yesterday and repaired the damage. FUCK YOU VANDALS, you're not keeping that pack of bikers down.

If you want to see the pics of the damage and restoration, check out fireskill's flickr stream.

I was also sent a link to another gallery by Carissa Earl, of the damage and rebuilding efforts. You can check it out on her site. From what she said even a couple of the mountain bikers stopped by and pitched in to re-build the trials. Bike community FTW! She also brings us proof that the trail is once again RIDEABLE:

Awesome.

I just got a message from Cullen, the trailboss out at the Walnut Creek Pump Track. He said that some time late last night/early this morning several of the lips and faces of the jumps had been vandalized and damaged. They're not sure who did it but this thing is a a precious asset to Austin's bike community, we need to look out for it. If anyone knows anything about this, let me know and I'll make sure the right people hear about it.
