Pedicab ride ends in arrest

A man who took his girlfriend for a ride on a pedicab downtown early Sunday was arrested and charged with theft, a state jail felony.
Paul Monroe Buchanan, 27, told police he thought pedicabs were available for free and for public use, so he was taking the pedicab home, according to the arrest affidavit.
Buchanan, with his girlfriend Abbye Chamness in the backseat, rode the pedicab about a block before he ran into a parked car, according to the affidavit. Several pedicab drivers had chased them down the street, yelling for Buchanan to pull over, the affidavit says. When police arrived, the other drivers had pinned Buchanan to the sidewalk.
Buchanan took the pedicab from where it was parked at East Fifth Street and San Jacinto Boulevard, while the driver, Justin Brown, was inside a bar on a bathroom break, according to the affidavit.
The pedicab is worth about $5,000, according to the affidavit.
Glad to hear the other pedicab operators stepped up and got this guy under control until the police showed up. Talk about a lesson in how bike thieves SHOULD be dealt with. Great job, y'all.

After all, there were at least two arrests that evening, and while Richard may have *looked* like he was obstructing traffic without a valid reason -- the other victim says he was just riding along like everybody else -- and he was thrown off his bike too.
And there's also other members in the legal system who ought to qualify -- for example, the people who set up the system that kept Richard from calling for help. Or the people who made the system that kept people from even giving him money for a phone card until next monday (well, he couldn't buy the card until monday, same difference), or kept non-attorneys from even seeing him until thursday.

Man, I've looked at twitter and it's just a mess to me. I value English too much to take part in its' transition into Newspeak. Call me old school, but real words, sentence structure and fully realized ideas have an appeal that twitting/twatting/twhatevering can't match.
Twitter reminds me of the aviation weather reports. And it's getting worse, not better! (Twitter, not the weather. The weather is getting better, finally!)
