Whole Foods puts up signs warning of theft.
About two weeks ago I posted about getting multiple reports of bikes being stolen from Whole Foods. Thankfully Whole Foods has not been deaf to our concerns. Ahlee just sent me some information about a new sign they've put up in their parking garage, and the conversation that went on behind the scenes to get it installed:
I saw the post the other day about bicycle theft here at WFM. As I'm sure you don't even have to guess I hate bike theives just as much as you do. So after reading your post I contacted our leadership at the store. I sat down with them as well as our marketing team and thought up possible ideas. Luckily, we have a store team leader that cares deeply about the bike community so she was just as eager as I was to find a solution to this problem. So to start we have put up some cautionary signs in our parking garage. We're hoping this is a step in the right direction to deter bike theft as well as educate our guests on how to keep their bikes safe and secure. If you have any other questions or concerns feel free to contact me. Take care.

And here's the sign itself:
Not bad, y'all. Hopefully people will take it to heart, and secure their bicycles properly with a decent U-Lock. I like that they also direct people with questions to the employees who would best be able to answer them, the bike delivery folks. Ultimately, the security onus rests on the biker, as the store still doesn't provide cameras or parking lot security watching the bike corral area.
too much to ask to have them put up a camera over the bike corral area? just think if every person that biked there protested that store...they would probably lose a percentage of customers they might never get back. unless they think those people that bike there can *afford* to get their bikes stolen?!
hmm...i'm officially boycotting that stupid store until something better than a passive sign is made to 'fix' or deter the (was seems like a big-scale) theft problem.

Two of my friends that work at Whole Foods had their bikes stolen. One of them locked up with a cable lock which was cut and left behind and the other had a cable and ulock combo which was taken along with his bike.
