Heavy Metal Ride - The definition of "Labor Day"

This was sent to me (and posted to Facebook) yesterday, but after the awesomeness of the Moonlight Cruze I'm just getting back to the point where I can function on a sentient level and comprehend basic written language. Sounds like Keith and Clif are taking the words Labor Day seriously tonight:

Hey Metal Heads. I was very pleased to hear that we had a group ride last Monday even though Clif and I had taken the week off. Great commitment, folks!

Things return to normal this week as we resume our weekly hard riding, swimming and beer drinking.

For those that haven't ridden the Heavy Metal Fitness Ride yet, let me give you the lowdown on what to expect.

This is a diverse group of cyclist. Over the brief history of this ride I have seen road bikes, mountain bikes, bmx bikes, hybrids and even tall bikes. The pace is brisk. This is no club ride, but we have some pretty respectable riders in our group that like to push the pace. After a 20 some odd mile ride, we hit Barton Springs for free swim, then ride over to the Jackalope for 100 free pints of beer, half-priced pizza... and heavy metal music.

We have no sag support, so you need to be prepared. Your mom will most likely not be making the ride so you need to have WATER, tools to change a tube and a pump. Lights are also good as we will be riding some after dark. I wear a helmet. I'll leave that decision up to each rider, but a head injury is sure to ruin your ride. You are responsible for your own safety.

The route is posted here. If you can't keep up with the pack, ride the route at your own pace, or meet us at Barton Springs. The idea behind this ride is to push yourself, irregardless of your level of fitness. If you don't finish, come out next week and see if you make it further.

We meet on Mondays at the Pfluger Pedestrian bridge at 7pm. We leave at 7:30pm SHARP.

We will see you at the bridge, Metal Heads!

Speaking of hardcore, from the sound of things both Bob and Daniel deserve the Hardcore Championship Belt for going the distance Saturday/Sunday. After taking part in the Moonlight Cruze, they both kept rolling on to the Sunday morning RIDE for another 30+ miles of biking bliss. Bob clocked 81 miles all together, and in Daniel's case, he was toting his polo mallet the entire time so that he could make it over to Bike Polo and properly cap off his 20 hour long bike ride. You two are insane, and I assume extremely caffeinated.

now i gotta return all those greeting cards!darn
