Word on the Watermelons: HEB says "No big deal!"
I've received about half a dozen emails about the watermelon theft, expressing outrage at what happened, offering money to replace them, yet one guy named Jason who wasn't even ON the ride actually took the initiative and CALLED HEB! They spoke with the general manager, apologized, and here's the response he got from the manager:
This morning I called the HEB and spoke with Ed the general manager.
I apologized on behalf of the cycling community and offered to pay for the damages.He said no big deal and thanked me for reaching out.
I even suggested we could prepay for melons next year and they are happy to work with us.Just some food for thought.
Thanks for checking in with HEB, Jason. Good to know they weren't too cheesed off over the incident. If any of you cyclists are still feeling bad about this, why not go to HEB, pay for a melon, and leave it on the stacks? It's been made clear that THEY don't feel too bad about it, so no worries. Let's just do it better next time, eh?
