ATXBS 2nd Birthday Party: The Good Times.
The party. Oh, the party. Jonathan really went all out for this one, and he as well as all the artists and performers have my gratitude for making it such an amazing evening. Though I didn't do any planning or organization, the event was billed as the ATXBS 2nd Birfday Party, and Jonathan arranged booze, live music, hula hoopers AND some rather excellent flaming entertainment. You rock, Jonathan. If you see this cat at Spiderhouse and you enjoyed the party, remember to TIP WELL.
When we rolled up on "Fort Awesome" we were greeted with a keg, fire, a sand-covered square and some ambient noise music in the background. There was no tap yet, but that omission was remedied in short order when Whiteside arrived, fully supplied to get the party rolling. The keg was tapped, the live noise music picked up in intensity, a few bands of cyclists that had split off to forage for sustenance re-joined us, and the party was officially ON!
We grabbed a jar and started collecting donations for the keg, and within 20 minutes we had enough money to finance the second keg! We didn't stop there, and in another hour (before the first keg floated) we had the money for keg #3. Do you see where this night was going? That's right: STRAIGHT TO AWESOME! Once the noise music wrapped up a DJ took over the speakers and the inside of the house turned into a dance party. Sometime around then was also when the fire dancers made their appearance. I didn't catch y'alls names but THANK YOU for showing up, I loved that shit! They performed on and off throughout the night, both with poi and flaming hula hoop. Another mid-party arrival was Vince, with an entire case of "Hey Cupcake" cupcakes in tow for the party! He even threw on gloves and served the whole ragged lot of us, saving quite a few from imminent sugar withdrawal. Personally, I was a fan of the red velvet and the carrot (cup)cake. THANKS VINCE!
Another excellent donation to the cause was Amber's ATXBS fabric patches! Vince has a good pic of one in his photo collage (below) but let me tell you they turned out perfectly, and from the sound of things we've got enough fabric for another run in case you didn't get one at the party. Keep an eye out for more ATXBS shit in the near future.
People kept showing up over the course of the evening, many of them riders from earlier, but quite a few who didn't smell like the usual party crowd. The girls on the tip jar kept everyone honest and made sure to collect donations from the crashers, good job y'all. After the DJ's set had gone on for a while, Whiteside The Poet took over the mic and started rhyming over the DJ's beats and Jonathan's drumming. I'd been looking forward to this all evening and was just getting into it when someone came in yelling that the cops were here over a noise complaint. The officers let the party go on but at the cost of having to shut down the music. FUCKING BULLSHIT. It's a friday, it's not even midnight, what's the deal? Guess some neighbor doesn't enjoy quality music... assholes. Because of this I was about to split but then the THIRD keg showed up, so I stuck around long enough to enjoy a few more beers and the company of my friends before retiring to my humble abode for some much needed slumber.
Besides bringing the cupcakes, Vince took a bunch of pics at the party. Check the following collage to see the goods:
