2009 Giro de Ghetto - Official schedule and final details!
NEWSFLASH: FULL GIRO DE GETTO DETAILS FINALLY RELEASED!
That's right, with one day to spare Brian has officially filled us in. Here's his message, along with an actual honest-to-goodness race schedule:
The details are attached.
If you have questions, please feel free to read my previous email. All the way through. If you STILL have questions - you should ask Kate, she knows more about this race than I do. hehe But seriously though folks - ask away.
3 most important things:
1. THIS IS NOT JUST AN ALLEYCAT. IT IS THE ULTIMATE FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIPS OF (ILLEGAL) STREET RACING. Every night is different, and awesome in its own way.
2. If you are on this list - you are capable of racing in this race. Well, unless you're "stranded" somewhere like San Fran (Hi E!) or Portland (Sup J Bomb?) or some other horribly awesome place.
3. You do NOT have to race all nights. Do as many as you can.Your questions about prizes:
- the prizes are better than previous years, to include a whole lot of money.
- each class will have their own pool of prizes and money. This means the more friends you talk into racing, the bigger the pot gets that you could win at the end. Win-win.Last thing - these races will NOT be called because of rain. If you're hard enough to race, you're hard enough to do it in the rain. Getcha some of those $50 booties I just got @ REI this week - your feet will thank you.
Hope you are all doing well and I look forward to seeing you tomorrow night and whole bunch next week.
<3,
BDj, Inc.
And the schedule y'all have been chomping at the bit for:
8pm at the Lamar Pedestrian Bridge. THERE YOU GO. As Brian said between the above information and his previous email you should know everything you need to know about the 2009 Giro de Ghetto. If you want to know some of the backstory on this early Austin alleycat race from the dark days, back before most of us were even doing this wacky bicycle racing business (you know, 2005?), check out Megan Rucker's site here and here, and school yourself on some local history.
Tomorrow you racers better bring your game face, because the at the Giro de Ghetto they do the mountain stage FIRST!
What a blast! Thanks to the promoter and volunteers for making this happen. There were some fast guys out there, man.
