10/03/2009 - 11:59pm

Damn, I need to keep a better eye on the calendar, as we're only 5 short days away from another Full Moon Cruise! This time around the crew meets on the Lamar Pedestrian Bridge at 11:59pm Saturday the 3rd to party and chill with friends before rolling out for parts unknown and celebrating the bike life under the glowing light of the Harvest Moon. Why's it called the harvest moon? Read on to see what The Farmers' Almanac has to say about this conundrum:

Full Harvest Moon - October This is the full Moon that occurs closest to the autumn equinox. In two years out of three, the Harvest Moon comes in September, but in some years it occurs in October. At the peak of harvest, farmers can work late into the night by the light of this Moon. Usually the full Moon rises an average of 50 minutes later each night, but for the few nights around the Harvest Moon, the Moon seems to rise at nearly the same time each night: just 25 to 30 minutes later across the U.S., and only 10 to 20 minutes later for much of Canada and Europe. Corn, pumpkins, squash, beans, and wild rice the chief Indian staples are now ready for gathering.

As the weather gets chiller and the nights begin earlier, expect for these rides to get even more excellent. Last year the October ride brought out all sorts of crazy costumes, wild bikes, stereos and all sorts of other assorted fun, so what happens this time around is completely up to y'all! Want to wear a funny hat? DO IT! Like to listen to chamber music while you ride? BRING IT! At the very least remember to include flashy lights and some water in your goodie bag. See y'all out on the bridge Saturday night.

The only thing better than a saturday night full moon ride during ACL is a SATURDAY AND SUNDAY FULL MOON RIDE during ACL!!! FUCK YEAH! I know you pedicabbers are so cool you can ride till 7am monday morning but some people have other kinds of jobs, and I know you pedicabbers are suckas fo money so you can't miss a legendary $1000 night. And then the real badasses can ride both nights! It won't be the first time. DeezNutz whoever you are thank you for undying dedication to the stoner lyfestyle and double thanks for cold reppin' Damon, my Yoda in this whole thing. Two full moons are better than one, if I was in town I would be on both.

So I have always gone by the High Times Calender and I have been going on the Full Moon rides since they started... whew the good ol days when Austin was not saturated by people that really need to learn how to ride bikes before they get on them, but at least they ride. Anyways, Damon and I resurrected the moon, I have decided on a route, the ride will keep a steady pace and not stop at all the lights, because trust me a bunch of bike riders clumped up can be just as dangerous as a car. Plus, even with ACL, less drunk assholes in their cars on the road on a Sunday night.
Come when you want, ride both nights if you please, I will be dancing on Saturday, riding on Sunday and if we get only 10 - 30 people it will be indeed be just like when it started, people out just for the sake of riding, not because it is the new fad, ahhh memories of 30 degree nights and ice cold beer...
Shit when you get down to it hightimes vs almanac, ha ha. Ride safe, be good, and respect people in cars not because you want to but because they can kill you.

ride when ever you want just make sure you ride. I have been told by this months fearless leader that the ride is on sun oct. 4th at 11:59. theres a route, a moon to follow, and a keg to sip off of at the end. So for everyone that is riding on Saturday night Rock on! More beer for me, stereo bob, Damon, and this months fearless leader.

Ps: this months fearless leader just informed me that she doesnt care if you go sat. or sun. just go ride your bike.

fixed gears are like butt holes, every one has one.

ACL fest is too lucrative an opportunity for pedicab drivers to blow off. Look for us pedicab pilots to reappear on November's ride. You Sunday night riders should stop off at the pedicab shop at 4th & Attayac. Dang will be cookin'.

stereo bob

you know I miss the fuck out of you, yo!

Is that you babe! you better come in kev!

the full moon is sunday morning at 6:10am, so a saturday night cruise (ie sunday morning cruise) is the night with the more full moon.

its on sunday the 4th.

fixed gears are like butt holes, every one has one.

We're going to be leaving the bridge at 12:30am, Sunday the 4th. The fullest point of the full moon happens about 45 minutes later.

Hey, I just run this stupid website. If you want the dates to conform to your calendar, then someone needs to take the initiative before I post these damn things to give me a writeup on the ride, make a flyer, hell just send me a date to post. In lieu of someone else DOING SOMETHING, I'll post what looks right. Ride whenever you want to Justin.

If you didn't do something, we'd probably have a weak turnout both nights of people expecting a ride. Gotta pick something, right or wrong, and get the word out!

The full moon is at 10/04 06:11 GMT -- Sunday morning.
That's 10/04 01:11 CDT (local time).

So, we could assemble at 10/04 11:59p as the moon is already almost a full day away from full and getting less full all the time, or we could assemble at 10/03 11:59p, then howl at the completely full moon 72 minutes later, then keep riding.

We'd get more moon if we rode Saturday night than Sunday night. It's not often that we can catch the actual full moon (the odds are only about 20-25%) so we ought to take the opportunity to do so.

Now, some purists might say that Sunday night is the time to ride. It's happened before -- and we ended up with one big ride with more moon (OK, different moon/month I know), and a smaller ride with less moon. Which is better? I guess that's up to everybody to decide.

Cool side note -- December will have a blue moon!. We should be riding 12/01 and 12/31 -- 12/31 ought to be awesome!

you don't know how happy this blue moon makes me, I am planning on being back in austin for the 31st. anyway if i can throw my one cent in on this, it should be 'saturday' night aka 2359h saturday or more like 0030h sunday. god damn i miss all of ya'll though, either way.

... to have you back.

Either way, to use an overused term ... 12/31's ride is likely to be epic.

I'm planning my winter vacation so I'm back in Austin for the 12/31 full moon ride, talk about amazing!

or we could do it the way we've been doing it since we started. high times calendar says sunday oct. 4th...

fixed gears are like butt holes, every one has one.

Unfortunately, tradition keeps conflicting with reality.

One of these days, I'm not going to be pedicabbing while the ride is happening. That'll be the day.

... how late do you pedicab? I would imagine that demand tapers way off after 2am. When it's time to quit, call somebody, find out where the ride is, join them ...

I've done it before, but not THIS weekend.

... the ride goes on until nearly daylight. Does pedicabbing business last that long?

It's ACL so it's going to be busier than normal, of course, but is there anybody needing rides after, say, 4am?

If not, find the ride and join it for the last few hours.

If pedicabbing keeps you busy until 7am, then by all means, make some $, ride for fun later ...

If it makes you happy, we don't actually leave until 12:30am or so anyways, so all the riding WILL be on the 4th.

I am buying 2 kegs for the party after the ride--
My vote is for Saturday night-- But if you all cant figure
out when to have the ride --
I will wait till the next ride to drop the coin for the kegs-
So let me know---Jay--->
