LOBV Board Meeting/Dinner scheduled for TODAY!
Tom Wald, newly elected Executive Director of the League of Bicycling Voters, recently sent out the following call to local bicycle advocates about the upcoming (as in tonight) LOBV board meeting. Tom's really looking to take the LOBV in some new directions as far as community organization and advocacy goes, so if you want to know more about that it might behoove you to check this meeting out:
Tuesday, Sept. 29th 6pm:
We are scheduled to meet for dinner, meeting, and drinks at Rio Grande Restaurant, 301 San Jacinto Blvd.
http://details.riograndemexican.com/locations.aspx?id=1&loc=7Dinner and drink purchases will be made individually.
The agenda will be approximately as such:
6:00-6:45pm -- dinner
6:45-8:00pm -- meeting
8:00 and onward -- drinks & socializing (and, of course, informal shop talk)Some of you have RSVPed for tomorrow (and some have specified that you are unable to attend). I would like to get a number for tomorrow as soon as possible, so please let me know if you plan to attend.
We have a unique plan in mind for LOBV. We want to ensure representation of the bicycling community by _directly_ involving the broader community at our next step. This process will open up advocacy to many new people, so we need your support, as existing leaders, to make this transition smooth. Your attendance tomorrow will be instrumental to help us provide good opportunities to all of those eager people exiting the David Byrne event last night. (For those who cannot attend tomorrow, let's be in touch over the next few weeks.)
Three-digit member numbers are in limited supply. Join now:

A week prior to this, he sent an introductory letter to a bunch of local advocates talking about a few of the things he's wanting to do with the LOBV in the short-term. Sounds like they're going to be taking a much more active role in local advocacy, and with the hiring of a great new Executive Director with a proven record of bicycle advocacy work, they're off to a good start. If you want to be involved, go grab dinner at Rio Grande.
Indeed, if you show up to the meeting, that pretty much means you're interested in the cause and getting involved. Or maybe you just want queso and a beer. Regardless, you're welcome if interested.... D'Amico
