Rumors of refreshment on the Full Moon Cruise, plus if you missed the first one, ride the Full Moon Cruise on Sunday!
Just got a badass email from one of the organizers of this Month's Full Moon Cruise. No big deal, just a little something about TWO KEGS AT THE END! Nice! They also give us a bit of a hint as to the direction of travel:
so yeah our nice friend jay (older dude who rides a homemade yellow recumbent/chopper) has been gracious enough to pay for 2 kegs of beer for after the ride with only one condition, which is that we ride north first, then come back on the east side, which Im sure everyone is totally down for. as this ride is the actual harvest moon, im glad we'll have a good place to party! so lets all make sure to bring a few buck to try and chip in for the beer so jay doesn't end up having to pay for everyones fun. ive got some good rest spots planned so EVERYBODY SHOW UP! And try and bring people that haven't come on these before lets have the biggest full moon cruise ever!
Sounds like there are some solid plans for a good ride, and as it's Saturday night the stores are open until 1am. Get them tasty beverages and get your ass to the bridge, because ACL's in town and it's gonna be a PARTY! Remember to bring a few bills if you're gonna hit the party at the end, because nobody likes a mooch. Yeah, you.
BUUUUUUUUUUUT, that's not ALL! It sounds like there's going to be another renegade traditionalist Full Moon Cruise, happening the folling night; same time, same place, and from the sound of it they've got some wild plans for the evening:
So I have always gone by the High Times Calender and I have been going on the Full Moon rides since they started... whew the good ol days when Austin was not saturated by people that really need to learn how to ride bikes before they get on them, but at least they ride. Anyways, Damon and I resurrected the moon, I have decided on a route, the ride will keep a steady pace and not stop at all the lights, because trust me a bunch of bike riders clumped up can be just as dangerous as a car. Plus, even with ACL, less drunk assholes in their cars on the road on a Sunday night.
Come when you want, ride both nights if you please, I will be dancing on Saturday, riding on Sunday and if we get only 10 - 30 people it will be indeed be just like when it started, people out just for the sake of riding, not because it is the new fad, ahhh memories of 30 degree nights and ice cold beer...
Shit when you get down to it hightimes vs almanac, ha ha. Ride safe, be good, and respect people in cars not because you want to but because they can kill you.
I also received an email from Justin yesterday evening, with a bit more detail on the Sunday night Full Moon Cruise, which comes complete with a party, kegs and BBQ (DOPE!) waiting for us. The good times are all up to you:
So ya.. Damon and an old friend of his have been working on this months ride together. they have the moon ressurected so we got something to lead us like the sheeple we are, theres a good route planned out, and the final stop will be at a party. BBQ, Kegs, and good times. They have it all planned for sunday night oct. 4th. thats what the calendar says so thats what they went with.
It sounds like we got two rides this weekend, (gosh how terrible could it be?) just giving you another heads up on sunday nights cruise.
Ps: heres the text message I just recieved about the ride. "Bust out your spandex!!! rode part of the route and you might need to bust out the road bike, shave your butt hole, put a little vaseline on it, because this ride is not for the weak at heart."
Man I can only hope thats a joke. I get any where near vaseline and I revert back to my prison days. O those poor little hipster boys.
As they said, this ride is based on the dates published in the High Times calendar, which from the looks of things is also based on GMT, and as we're a full 6 timezones away, it doesn't always apply to the Full Moon down here in Texas. As my entire life is driven by the forces of the celestial bodies (kidding), I just feel this weird urge to ride on the night of the actual full moon. Call me crazy, call it lycanthropy, but that's how I roll. Who knows, maybe I'll be up for two solid nights of full moon cruising, and just ride the both of them. I did it last time this happened (until they passed my point of no return), so maybe y'all will see me out there Sunday night as well. Hell, the more rides the better. I dig when this shit happens, plus who doesn't love the sound of some BBQ after a good ride?
Thank you all that came out for what became known as the "Day After Cruz", that is the day after the full moon cruz. We started small and ended smaller but as promised beer and bbq waited for us as well as the man who started the whole cruz. Dreams of moon lollypops glowing in the hills of the east side, melodic peeing in the bushes of what maybe an old cemetery, and really good people... This ride reminded me of what I love about riding in a group and why I loved the smaller groups of not so distant past. Thank you to all that stop, waited, and became family for a night. I am happy that it did not become "that night we left that guy in the cemetery with the clarinet." Thank you for your dedication and trusting me to take you into parts of Austin that many riders do not get to see. I talked with Damon we want to continue that down to basic type of rides with treats at the end. Just remember when we get chased by dogs in a group at least one of has to have a blow horn, ha ha!!
PS I promise next time we will go at a little slower pace but I am not promising smaller hills.
