Monday Heavy Metal Fitness Ride - Annihilation of Hammerfest!
Keith B just sent me the words on this evening's Metal Ride. It's going to be the south course in REVERSE, so all the hills are descents, and the long easy descents become something to grind up. Sounds like a good time, if you're into that unique brand of torture:
Hey Metal Heads. Remember backwards masking? Back in the day "they" insisted you could take your metal album, spin it backwards on the turntable and hear a satanic message meant to drive you to the dark side.
This week, we are spinning a familiar route backwards. Who knows, maybe you will hear a hidden message? Let me know.
We are taking the south route, but reversing it. Easy descents will become lung burners. Nemesis hills on the route will be your time to recover.
We will ride RAIN OR SHINE! Don't let a few drops of water scare you off. Sure beats triple digits.
The Heavy Metal Fitness Ride departs the Lamar Pedestrian Bridge, Monday’s at 7:30 pm. Sharp. Expect a reasonably fast pace, covering 22 miles on an urban route in the dark. It should be raining on us, so we are scratching the Barton Springs portion of the evening. After we ride hard it's straight to the Jackalope to enjoy free beer, heavy metal madness, half-priced pizza and happy hour ($2.00 wells) all damn night.
Ride what brung ya. Road, mountain, bmx, cruzer, fixie, whatever. Metal Fitness is an equal opportunity ride and not limited to roadies.
Last time I heard, you’re mother won’t be attending, so you’ll need to bring water, lights, tube changing necessities, a lock, your id and TIP MONEY if you’re drinking. Check the route map. I wear a helmet as the ride is FAST AND IN THE DARK. Remember. Head injuries slow rides. And you don’t want to slow down a Heavy Metal Fitness ride. Now do you?
ROUTE and QUE SHEET You can print your own and I'll have more for you at the bridge, but study both. i don't want anyone cutting me slack and waiting on me because they don't know the route. if i don't get dropped this week I will be very disappointed in you people.
These riders are a good crew, but they like to push the pace and sometimes it becomes a bit of a hammerfest (obligatory metal video successfully inserted), so if you end up getting dropped either try to shortcut and catch up with them, or just cruise on back to the bar and chill with a beverage and some pizza. Eventually they'll show up, and it'll just give you an excuse to push HARDER next week.
