Mexic-Arte Museum presents: Viva la Vida Fest, and a call for cyclist participation
I'll be posting more about this later today but I need to get out the door and run to work, hence the brevity. Look who wants some cyclist participation this year:
That's right y'all, the Mexic-Arte Museum's annual Dia de los Muertos parade wants a bunch of bikers to be included in the festivities! As to why they want a bunch of stinky cyclists amongst them, well check this out:
To celebrate life and our environment through art and culture. Día de los Muertos (or Day of the Dead) is an important Mexican tradition, taking place on November 1 and 2, when friends and family gather to honor and remember loved ones – not through mourning, but through festivity! This year, Mexic-Arte Museum wants to extend this festivity to not only celebrate those who have passed – but also celebrate those who are active in leading healthy lifestyles and taking care of our earth. Because of this, we invite the cycling community in Austin to participate as a feature of our Grand Procession, which is the highlight of this annual festival.
The goal is to have bicyclists participate en masse in the Procession to truly make an impact and show Austin how important it is to be a bicycle friendly community – for health reasons, for environmental reasons, for social reasons…because it’s fun!
The main party happens near the Museum at 5th and Congress and kicks off at 2pm, but the big processional (where they want bikes included) meets out at Plaza Saltillo at 5, so if you're marching/riding in the parade, you need to be there. I'm getting the word out now because if you want to be in the procession with your bicycle you need to fill out a registration form.
Even if you aren't participating in the parade (or are but are hoofing it with the rest of the walkers), you should ride your bike anyways because Mellow Johnny's is going to be running a free bike valet service. Nice! More details on their facebook page.
