That's right y'all, the big one is happening this Saturday. The 2009 Tour das Hugel includes over 100 miles of Austin's most difficult hills, including Jester, Bullick Hollow, Mount Bonnell, Ladera Norte, Smokey Valley, Courtyard, Stratford, The High Road, and Toro Canyon. That's around 14,600 feet of climbing, if you're one of those types that likes to count such things. The riders meet under the Mopac Bridge in Zilker Park (on the Stratford side) at 7am to get an early start on what is guaranteed to be a very long day.

The price of admission is FREE, but this ride is not without its' costs. The warning on their site lays it all out rather nicely:

This is an extremely difficult ride that requires a person to be of sound body and mind. Ride at your own risk. Obey all traffic laws. All roads are open to the public. This ride is for fun and is a non-organized event. Ride at your own risk.

This is not a ride for the weak. They've designed this year's course as a 2-part loop, so if you want to bail out at the 40 mile mark you'll be close to the starting point. If you tough it out and finish the ride you get a free Tour t-shirt, which you can wear with pride and thereby silently mock us lesser cyclists who aren't up to the task. If you need more info, full details (including photos of previous years) reside on their website. Have fun y'all!
