Heavy Metal Fitness Ride - three classes for three levels of awesome!
Tonight's the Monday Heavy Metal Fitness Ride, but if you're an old vet of the ride OR if you've been intimidated by the pace, read on for some very interesting news:
Hey Metal Heads. Over the past several months of the ride one thing has been a constant. Every week the ride is faster than the last. We are attracting some great riders and that is a good thing. But the Heavy Metal Fitness ride wants all types of riders on all types of bikes so this week we are making a change.
This week, as usual, all riders will ride the same route, have the same fun and drink the same free beer and half priced pizza provided by the Jackalope at the end of the ride. But starting this week, we will have ride leaders for all levels of riders. If you push the pace every week, we have a ride leader for you. If you are a strong rider, but have been dropped by the breakneck pace before, we have a ride leader for you that knows the route. If you are a rider that just wants to challenge themselves, finish the route and get stronger for next time, we have a leader for you who will guide you all of the way to the bar.
Ride what brung ya. Road, mountain, bmx, cruzer, fixie, whatever. Metal Fitness is NOW an equal opportunity ride and not limited to roadies.
Last time I heard, you’re mother won’t be attending, so you’ll need to bring water, LIGHTS, tube changing necessities, a lock, your id and TIP MONEY if you’re drinking.
SPECIAL SAFETY NOTE:
I wear a helmet as the ride is fast, urban and in the dark. Yes, it’s a Heavy Metal ride but we rather you didn’t bang your head. Two weeks ago there was a rider whose melon is still in one piece because he was wearing a helmet. He is a good rider, just a victim of circumstance, darkness and speed. His helmet was cracked, but his brain is ok due to the fact he was protected. So for the time being, I will leave it up to you Metal Heads to make that decision for yourselves. You all will be aware of and assume the personal risk of riding fast and in the dark. If you choose not to wear a helmet that is your decision and responsibility. Also, take a look at the route map before you come out. map: http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Heavy-Metal-Fitness-South
Looking forward to seeing you Metal Heads at the bridge!
DAMN! Multiple skill levels including a no-drop group who just wants to make it through the course and to the bar. Looks like when my arm heals up and I get out to this ride again I'll be in good company! Thanks for looking our for us riders, Keith. Get yourself and your bike to the Lamar Pedestrian Bridge around 7pm if you want to BS with your fellow cyclists, but be ready to leave at 7:30pm sharp, because if you miss this ride you'll really have to haul ass to catch 'em. It's been done, but it's quite the feat if you can do it.
If you've avoided this ride because of the speed or been dropped early on before, now's the time to give it another shot. Don't worry, you won't get left in the dust cranking up a hill somewhere. At least not by everyone. ;)
