12/01/2009 - 11:59pm

Lots of people have been asking about this one so I'm jumping the gun on the new official source and announcing it now. The moon is 100% full at 1:32am December 2nd (eeeeeeearly Wednesday morning), so the ride happens Tuesday night at 11:59pm on December 1st. Get your asses out to the Lamar Pedestrian bridge and be prepared to chase the moon. Make sure you bring flashy lights, layered clothes (you'll warm up riding, to be sure), any beverages or party supplies as might befit a ride of this caliber, and of course all the crazy bike riding friends you can muster at midnight on a Tuesday. If you're the type that just LOVES a theme for a ride, here's what the December full moon is all about (according to the Farmers' Almanac:

The Full Cold Moon; or the Full Long Nights Moon

December During this month the winter cold fastens its grip, and nights are at their longest and darkest. It is also sometimes called the Moon before Yule. The term Long Night Moon is a doubly appropriate name because the midwinter night is indeed long, and because the Moon is above the horizon for a long time. The midwinter full Moon has a high trajectory across the sky because it is opposite a low Sun.

Mittens, touqes, fur hats, goofy ski vests, all sorts of stuff denote COLD! Go nuts.

P.S. there's a second Full Moon this month, so stay tuned for more details as the date approaches. Talk about badass!

Update: Fixed the day. The 1st is a Tuesday, not a Monday. Obviously I can't read.

so 12/1 11:59p would be Tuesday, not Monday.
