Screw the Stroll, do the Roll! Bring your bike to Austin's Christmas festivities and RIDE!!!

Eileen Schaubert of the ACA/BAC/Mellow Johnny's just posted a fun sounding event to The Facebooks called the Congress Avenue ROLL! Ride your bikes downtown Saturday evening to watch the Christmas festivities, and take part in the NON-parade of bikes!

Introducing the Congress Avenue Roll! Light up your bike and bring the kids (of all ages) downtown for one of Austin's signature family holiday events and hopefully, a grand new tradition for the cyclists of Austin.

Saturday December 5th

6-7pm is the KUT Capitol Sing-Along featuring John Aeilli and thousands of revelers on the steps of the State Capitol.
7pm is the official Capitol Christmas Tree Lighting.
7-9pm is the Congress Avenue Stroll featuring music, performances, art activities, a crazy clue caper, treats, store specials and more all along Congress Avenue.

The Congress Avenue Roll - Join other cyclists rolling along Congress Avenue in an informal ride enjoying the festivities and showing off our holiday lights. We'll depart from Mellow Johnny's bike valet at 11th & Congress next to The Old Bakery right after the tree is lit. We aren't a parade so stop for the red lights and stay in the right lane. If you have questions, look for a ride escort lit up with a Flashbak.

Help members of the community by bringing a sealed jar of peanut butter for Caritas of Austin. You can drop off your donation at the base of the Capitol Christmas Tree during the event.

Guess in lieu of a real Jingle Ride it'll have to do. With the scope of the event and the number of law enforcement personnel who'll be milling about making sure you're a good consumer, this is probably a safe one to bring the kiddos, as long as you don't mind giving them a front-row seat to the creation of an artificially nostalgic police state.
