12/12/2009 - 12:00pm

Big event coming up this weekend if you're one of those anti-coal/"green" energy folks. The full details (and ability to RSVP) is on their Facebook event posting, but here's the gist of what's happening at the rally (ride details follow):

Texas is the #1 greenhouse gas emitter in the country. If it were a country it would be 7th worst on the planet. Texas occupies a strategic and symbolic position to take leadership in climate regulation on the international stage. As climate negotiations start to heat up in Copenhagen this month, people across the globe will take part in hundreds of vigils, rallies and giant petition-signings to tell our leaders that the world wants a real deal; it is time to sign a fair, ambitious and binding climate treaty. You can take part by coming to an exciting and free event on December 12.

December 12 Day of Action
Saturday, December 12, 1 to 3 pm
Texas State Capitol (South Steps)
Austin, TX 78701

Bring your signs and noisemakers. We want to let world leaders know that we need their signatures on a fair, ambitious and binding climate treaty. Families are welcome.

To RSVP or volunteer at this event, please email: action@oxfamamerica.org

This event is part of “The World Wants a Real Deal” Global Day of Action organized by the TckTckTck campaign, which includes Oxfam, Greenpeace, Avaaz, 350.org and other members.

As for the ride, people will be meeting up on the Lamar Pedestrian Bridge at noon on Saturday for a social-paced downtown ride, which leaves at approximately 12:30pm. If you support this cause please bring signs, decorated clothing, banners, or anything else you might carry to make your opinion known. This isn't just a ride, it's a mobile RALLY!

Hell, if you support coal and other forms of non-PC energy, show up with your signs too! The more the merrier, and as residents of such a politically vibrant city as Austin, I'm sure there'll be plenty of opinions represented at this event.

Want my political opinion? Here it is: INANIMATE CARBON ROD FOR PRESIDENT! Couldn't muck things up any worse than the last 40something stooges of the world financiers people to have held the position. I'm also pro-nuke, because three-eyed fish rule.
