Locally-made documentary on the Austin Pedicab scene is THE SHIT!
The following short film by Ron Swafford on the Austin Pedicabbing Community was uploaded to youtube about a month back, and last week the Austin Pedicab Alliance blog posted notification on their site as well as sent out emails highlighting its' completion, but I wanted to give it some more exposure due to it being such an AMAZINGLY AWESOME view into the local pedicabbing scene specifically, but also of the vibe that permeates the local bike culture as a whole, and that vibe can be summed up in one word:
Contained in the 30 minute documentary are some great stories about the odder side of the job, a good deal of dirtiness, thrilling accounts of gun AND fist fights, a smattering of nudity, and lots of HOT HOT HOT pedicabbers pedalling, sweating, twisting and contorting their sinewy bodies as they climb hills, straining under the load... maybe I better stop there before I get myself in any more trouble. Lets just say that the lesbian midget reach-around story is tops.
If you're a local you'll see lots of familiar faces (hey Randal, Juan, Russell, Brandon, Jonathan, Chris, Bob, and all the rest), and they name drop some entertaining celebs. Burt Motherfucking Reynolds, anybody?
Anyway, on with ALL FOUR parts of the documentary "Who Wants a Ride":
Best quotes of the film? "What happens in the cab stays in the cab, as long as we can get the stains out." and "Undercover cops DO NOT TIP."
Thanks for notifying us of this Ken. What a great fucking film. Hey kiddos, this is one to send to the parents when they ask you why you like to bike everywhere in that goofy little Texas town in the hill country.
One time I was riding my bicycle..true stories, exaggerated stories, or purely "what if"? It's great
Best yet worldwide! Derek
After pedicabbing for a couple years, I have no trouble believing every narrative. It's a wild, wild life.
My beef has to do with how many of the individuals featured in the film are no longer pedicabbing. The posers!
BTW: I declined Ron's request to be filmed and thus, to be immortalized, but I'm in the background on at least one shot. This was filmed over 2 years ago.

That's why I called you out in the list of names. I saw the back of your head and your pedicab lights and knew exactly who it was. I really like this short film, paints a GREAT picture of this unique aspect of the local bike scene.
Pedicabbing, that is. Didn't notice that callout before.

I agree it was a good film, but I do find the midget lesbian reach around story to be dubious. Too many factors that make it sound made up. They can't all be winners, but definitely worth a look. Great job.
