We're number 4!!! We're number 4!!! ...on the list of worst commutes in the U.S. of A.

A co-worker forwarded me a list of America's 75 worst commutes, and not too terribly surprisingly, Austin represented near the top of the list with a VERY respectable fourth place showing. We earned it with our through-town I35 corridor that clogs up every morning and evening with a snarl of angry automobile traffic. Luckily, the horrible clusterfucks of Mopac, Ben White, 183 and I-35 are largely avoided by us cyclists, and so the blow of a shitty commute is lessened as we glide down our tree-lined streets, enjoy ample bike lanes, and thumb our noses at the legions of cars practically parked on the public thoroughfares, waiting for their fellow commuter to inch a few feet forward so that they can follow in lockstep timing, pausing once again for gridlock as we cruise on by.

You know what the solution to this problem is? LESS CARS, MORE BIKES AND PUBLIC TRANSIT! We've run out of room. We're growing the city up, not out, and for the most part the roads aren't ever going to get any wider. Sick of your morning commute on the upper deck of I-35? CHANGE IT! Wake up earlier, get on your bike, and see what cycle commuting is all about. Who knows, you might actually like it...
