Social Cycling ATX presents: a ride to Mariel Mentink's Benefit Party.

You already know about the Mariel Mentink Benefit Party at Red 7 this Friday, but we just got the info on a ride beforehand:

Hey Everyone. This Friday we are putting on a very special event. Most of you have heard about Mariel's story of being the victim of a hit and run on New Years Eve. She has been in the ICU for a month now, has had numerous operations and is now facing lots of rehab. Her family is terrific. They remain very pro-cycling and very supportive of our community we have here. They are facing a large amount of medical bills. So this Friday night, we are having a special ride/event to raise some money to help Mariel and her family out and do what we do best... ride around and have fun.

WHERE AND WHEN: We will meet at 7:30 this Friday, February 5th at the Pfluger Pedestrian Bridge (map: http://tinyurl.com/yhs4xzd). We'll leave at 8 SHARP!

WHAT: A nice long cruise around the city ending at Red 7. There we will have bands, a dj dance party, mediterranean food and raffles every 30 minutes or so starting at 11pm.

Local personal chef company, Xen Kitchen have some killer food available that they are donating as well.

Raffle Prizes include:
Gift certificates from local bike shops, complimentary tabs at local drinking establishments, dinner for two catered to your home by Xen Kitchen, a year subscription to The Dropout bike zine and cycling caps handmade by Mariel herself.

HOW: There is a suggested donation of $5 at the door, but feel free to give more as your money will go towards helping Mariel return to good health. For your donation you will get one free raffle ticket. Additional tickets are available for a suggested $2 donation.

SOCIAL CYCLING: Always rides as traffic, not against it. Stay in one lane, stop at red lights and be generally pleasant to your fellow riders and other traffic.

YOU WILL NEED: Dollars for fun. This is a benefit ya'll. It could have been any one of us. You will also need LIGHTS, a lock and an ID if you plan on drinking (Red 7 is an all age venue). Helmets are always a good idea, but not required. You are responsible for your own safety on our rides.

As always you can RSVP on Facebook or just show up on the bridge at 7:30pm for the ride itself, it don't matter. Even if you don't make it out to this ride try to make it down to Red 7 around 9ish for the benefit party. The lineup looks decent and it's a cause we can all get behind: seeing a fellow cyclist through a rough time.
