New Belgium Urban Assault Ride

I've been trying to keep the rides/races I post to helmet-optional and under $10 events, but hell with it. I've been throwing Crits up here lately since people have been asking, so here's one more and this one actually looks FUN...

This weekend is ANOTHER of the big annual Austin events, the New Belgium Urban Assault Ride. It's $120 for a team of two, you must wear a helmet, and there are several street restrictions as to where you can bike (including Lamar and portions of Guadalupe). Barring those caveats it sounds like a badass event. Obstacle courses, big wheel races, checkpoints at many local bike shops, and beer afterwards! If you're gonna drop a bill on an event, might as well be this one.

Everything starts and finishes at RunTex (422 West Riverside Dr), and I'm sure there'll be plenty of opportunities for spectating, especially at the checkpoints:

* Rogue Running: 500 San Marcos

There's an after party with live music, beer, margaritas, and a big ominous sounding FINAL OBSTACLE for all the competitors to overcome. Dunno if they're charging for the party of what the deal is, but much like bikes, I loooooove crashing parties.
