Another hit and run in Austin
I just read this story on KXAN about a fellow cyclist named Amy McNair being hit by a vehicle that took off immediately afterward. She gives a description of the vehicle in the article so please keep an eye out y'all.
I've been a victim of a hit-and-run accident several times and it's always scary. You rarely see it coming and in a split second what should be happening (you riding your bike) stops happening and is replaced by terror and pain. Not fun. I'm glad to read that her injuries weren't serious, and hope that whoever caused this collision gets theirs. Who the hell doesn't stop after they've hit someone?!? Oh that's right. Drivers.
Time for MASS.
The comments are full of love for cyclists, too.
Oh wait, they're not.
If the city were really serious about making things safer for bicycles, they'd start some sort of information campaign about bicycle rights and responsibilities.
Agreeing with you here, if the city spent HALF as much on keep the road safe for bicycles campaigns as that stupid click it or ticket campaign, we would gain some awareness.
basically a lot of drivers would like anything slower than a rocket to stay the hell off the road, even if that means dying in the process.
One guy was even bitching about the BUS!
You know I never fully understood how much people hate being in their cars till I started riding a bike.
They DESPISE IT, and yet hate anyone who tries to stop doing it.
Proof that they hate it, they cant be bothered to go slow in an air conditioned box with comfy seats, because they need to get wherever they are going quickly so they can get the hell out of the torture box.
Myself, after riding my bike, that cold blast of ac makes any speed feel comfy. I don't mind waiting for people. I hardly ever take as long in the car as I do on the bike. Maybe its just a matter of attitude and expectations.
I know exactly what you mean.
I get people that feel the need to honk the horn at me about once a week, and I've always wanted to ask them why.
I'm not slowing them down, they blew past me just as fast as the traffic in the left lane, so what was the point?
Just another reason bikes are better than cars, if they had a bike, they could ride next to me and we could chat about it. Instead they just have a few seconds to sum up whatever the hell their point is in a single honk.
