Sunday Morning RIDE! We're back... really.
EVERYBODY'S BACK! Sunday morning ride is happening, and on SUNDAY even! If you were wondering what happened the past couple weeks (besides my email shitting the bed) here's a bit of backstory:
WE’RE BACK. REALLY.
Apologies to all who didn’t get the word about the ride moving to Saturday two weeks ago. Yet one more reason to read Jason’s great web site regularly.
Apologies to Mike, who did show up last Sunday. I didn’t, thanks to a minor cardiac glitch. See, I have this thing called atrial fibrillation, which is not really very dangerous if you take your regular medication (which I do), but once or twice a year things just get out of sync anyway, kinda like a cheap derailleur that starts hanging between gears. Then I have to take the Medication of Disfavor, which fixes the problem, but it makes me really tired and stupid for about 18 hours after I take it. Nevertheless, it beats the alternative, which is a trip to the ER. That’s the place where, once they find out that you have insurance, you’re staying the night. Even if you come in at 9:00 in the morning. With a hangnail.
I say all of this to assure everyone that the Sunday morning ride will be rolling from Clown Dog this Sunday (April 18) at 10:20 as usual. Bring your oilskins. It’s likely to be sloppy. By the way, my beat up old black Cycle Pro is back from the powder coat shop, and it ain’t beat up anymore. It’s now resplendent in a coat of Jollypop Blue Sparkle. Pimpazoid!!!! Must see to appreciate, as the ads say.
Those of you who have ridden with us before know how we roll. For those who haven’t, please read the blah-blah below. It’s important. Really.
• Some of us are down with the fixed gear deal, but mostly we’re just about riding. Bring whatcha got and ride with us.
• Every cyclist is responsible for his or her own safety and well-being. We assume that everyone is familiar with basic rules of cycling safety and has enough hours in the saddle to feel comfortable with his or her ride. Use of helmets is optional (but highly recommended). Use of headphones, earbuds, Blue Tooth headsets or any other form of electronic distraction is discouraged. (It’s a SOCIAL ride, dammit!) All traffic laws and rules of right-of-way will be observed. Here’s the deal:
SAFETY FIRST!!!!!
If someone gets killed, it ruins the ride for everybody.
• This ride is 25-30 miles long through mostly urban and suburban areas. We do a convenience store stop at about the halfway point for anyone who needs snacks or drinks.
• There is no SAG support on this ride. Bring a spare tube and something that will inflate it.
• The purpose of this ride is for everyone to have a good time and (we hope) to become better cyclists. We ride at a variable pace, according to the group on any given ride, and all skill levels are welcome. This is a 25-30 mile ride over typical Central Texas terrain. If this is consistent with your riding experience, or is perhaps slightly more challenging than what you’re accustomed to, you should have no problem going the distance.
The Sunday morning ride is back on track, and there’s a rumor that the Saturday morning ride might become a regular thing as well. Looking at distances of 40 – 60 miles, all kinds of terrain. Any thoughts on that?
It’s time to ride.
Sunday morning in front of Clown Dog is the place to be. They roll at 10:20am so try to get there a little before. Though some of the crew does ride the fixed gear, you can ride whatever the hell you want and fit right in. The tasmanian tiger was a badass looking animal.
If it is mostly dry I'll be riding.
